Christian Jankowski
born 1968 in Goettingenlives and works in Berlin
Visual entertainment media have formed an integral part of Christian Jankowski’s work since his studies at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg. Video, film, photography and installations are all included in the realisation of his artistic vision. Challenging our notions of the role of art, entertainment, politics and business in contemporary society, he blurs the lines between fiction and reality and incorporates the subjects of his works into the creative process, as in his performance Living Sculptures in 2007.
For Living Sculptures, Jankowski worked with three street artists portraying Che Guevara, Caesar and Dali’s painting The Anthropomorphic Cabinet (1936) on Barcelona’s “Las Ramblas”, a street popular with tourists and locals alike. Jankowski made bronze sculptures of the performers and exhibited the statues in two very different contexts: a city street and a white cube gallery situation.
