Allora & Calzadilla

The Puerto Rico-based artist duo express their ideas in the form of films, installations, performances and sculpture. Since they began collaborating in 1995, Allora & Calzadilla’s pieces have frequently dealt with complex connections between historical and current geopolitical factors, and the questions raised in their work and performances are developed in a global context. They investigate traces, symbols and survival strategies, and portray these conceptually, metaphorically and spatially in their installations.

Recent works have focused on the relationship between militarism and war on the one hand, and music, sound and performance on the other. In Clamor (2006), for example, they showcase the military music genre in the form of a musical and raise questions on the state of war around global conditions today.
