Nico Vascellari

Art is not the only passion in the life and work of Nico Vascellari: he also sings in a band. His musical experiences, in which he also works with improvisation, have produced many of the deconstructivist ideas for his art work. Vascellari’s work spans the genres of performance, photography, video, sculpture and collage. Thematically, he is interested in the kind of energy released in archaic rituals and punk concerts, and he also often works with symbol-laden objects and old traditions from his native Italy. His work was recently presented at the Manchester International Festival 2009. The performance he executed there was as physically arduous as it was tiresome. In every performance, lasting several hours each day, Vascellari banged a lump of metal from an old church bell from his home town against a rock, producing a very loud tolling sound.

In NUMBER THREE: HERE AND NOW Vascellari will present a performance and also appear in concert with his current band WW.
