Screening with works by Harkeerat Mangat, Hedda Schattanik & Roman Szczesny

Award winners of LKART studio scholarship, Düsseldorf

In the month of February, the JULIA STOSCHEK FOUNDATION is presenting selected works by the current artists in residence of the LKART studio scholarship 2018, Harkeerat Mangat and Hedda Schattanik & Roman Szczesny, within the STUDIO 54 film program. The screening will be held in the cinema of the Collection’s building in Düsseldorf.

Harkeerat Mangat's films and audio works are characterized by deceptive shifts between the premeditated and improvised, the planned and spontaneous, expectation and doubt. In using such strategies to present his research-based, allegorical content, Mangat's works pull viewers into taking on a cynical perspective of the world mediated through technology. For the STUDIO 54 film program, Mangat will perform a lecture presentation about two upcoming works: a musical theatre titled ARIA (2019), and FÜRSTENPLATZ (2020), a film set in Düsseldorf's Friedrichstadt. Excerpts from previous works, BEHIND CLOSED DOORS (2018), and RECORDING RITUALS (2017) will be shown to supplement his current and upcoming projects.

Hedda Schattanik and Roman Szczesny have been working together as an artist duo since 2014. Their mystical, visually appealing videos exceed the classic confines of the genre. The artists create complex stage sets, costumes and interior designs, which they present in their everyday living and working environments and within which the pair of artists themselves act as protagonists in front of the camera. They combine these shots with virtually animated scenes and poetically spoken texts – whereby language and image are collaged together freely. In the screening they will show the works APARTMENT MONOLOGUE (2018), which was awarded with the Marl Media Art Award in 2018, and their current work AMOR FATI (2019).

The artists will be present and will comment on their works.
